Pink stemonitis slime mould macro
Description
A macro image of slime mould genus Stemonitis, species stemonitis fusca, growing on a dead log. The fruiting bodies (sporangia) are attached to a hair-like structure. They are pink at first and later turn brown or black. I found it on decaying wood, in Hertfordshire, England. This specimen was a few millimetres tall and I focused merged 16 shots to get it all in focus. In the background there are some moss sporophytes also growing on the log.
